Women’s choir Kalada

Women’s choir Kalada was established in Povljana on the island of Pag in 2006. Since October 2006, the choir has been managed by Prof. Petar Čančar, and its members include: Marija Vičević (lead soprano), Željka Knežević, Lucija Crljenko (second sopranos), Marina Adam, Silvana Vidolin, (lead altos), Stela Stupičić and Angela Čepulo (second altos). The choir has so far performed at Christmas choir concerts ˝U susret Božiću˝ inPovljana as guests to the women’schoir Luka and in Novalja on ˝Raspivani Božić˝, at a concert celebrating 10 years of establishing the Povljana municipality, at a number of island choir meetings such as our well-known festival ˝Povljana u pismi˝, in the town of Pag, in Grobnik, and also as the only representative of Zadar county at the choir seminar and founding of the Croatian Klapa-choir Association in Bol on the island of Brač in April 2007. The klapa-choir prefers authentic Dalmatian songs and reproductions of more famous compositions. The choir uses the positive energy and beauty of authentic songs for various festivals, meetings and competitions. The women’s choir singing in Povljana survives owing to individuals who put a lot of effort and energy, having faith in the importance and the prospects of our native culture. According to our positive experiences, the klapa-choir is extremely well accepted by the foreign guests. The singing of the Kalada choir shows how some choir songs can be reinterpreted for the fans of klapa-singing in a particular, "female" way.
